Four jailed for stealing from employer
Four men who were working for Vizara Plantation in Nkhatabay district have been sentenced to four years in prison with hard labour for stealing fertilizer from the company.The four convicts are Suzgo Gondwe, Eliam Chirwa, Kondwani Mkanga and James Songa.According to court records, the four stole 18 bags of fertilizer from the plantation.The convicts connived with the company’s stores clerk to steal the fertilizer and agreed to share the proceeds from the sale of the fertilizer. However, an anonymous person tipped off the management of the company that its employees had stolen fertilizer.This prompted the plantation to conduct an audit which revealed that 18 bags of fertilizer were missing. The company reported the issue to police and officers arrested the four. Passing judgement, Magistrate Billy Nkosi said these issues are happening frequently hence he decided to sentence the men to four years imprisonment with hard labour.
Police urge people to identify a dead body at Nkhatabay hospital
Police in Nkhatabay district are calling on people whose relative is missing to visit Nkhatabay police and see if the body they are keeping in mortuary is their missing relative.According to Public Relations Officer for Nkhatabay police Ignatious Essau, an unknown African male who is believed to be between 40 and 45 years-old, on 17/04/2016 committed suicide by hanging himself in a rubber field at Vizara rubber plantations in the district. On the day when he hanged himself, the deceased was wearing a short checks sleeve shirt with a pair of grey trousers with a black belt and a blue short inside. He was also putting on a black top.Currently the dead body is being kept at Nkhatabay District Hospital mortuary. Police are therefore calling for anyone who can be able to identify this body to go to Nkhatabay police.
