BINGU STADIUM NEEDS 500
K500 Million required for Bingu stadium completion
Bingu National stadiumBingu National stadium to be opened a little longer. The sports fraternity in Malawi will still have to wait a little longer until the magnificent Bingu National stadium is opened as money amounting to K500 Million is needed to wind up core works before the facility comes to full use. This was revealed by Sports Minister, Grace Chiumia after she led the Vice President Saulos Chilima in a visit to the facility in Lilongwe.According to Chiumia, the money is meant to be used for the maintenance of the sewer system, planting of network and electricity cables among others. She said that this has come about due to emergency situations like floods which saw government coughing out a lot of funds. She says the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has been informed on the required money and that there is hope it will give out the money so that the stadium is opened for use.”We require up to K500 Million and we hope it will be given to us soon. We assure Malawians the stadium will be opened this year” said the Minister.Saulos ChilimaChilima: Says Malawians need to take care of the facility. On his part, Chilima asked Malawians to take full care of the facility when it comes to use so that it lasts long. While arguing that the issue of planting flood lights at the facility could not give government a headache now, he said in the meantime all the games could be played during day time until the lights are made available. The initial plan was to open the stadium by June this year but this revelations mean the stadium will not be opened by that time. The K26.6 billion) Chinese government-funded stadium will attract the soccer fraternity since it has 60,000 capacity, a far higher capacity than that of the old soccer cathedral, Kamuzu Stadium.
